Last night I went to a coffee shop to work on chapter 23. It went pretty smooth and I was really excited to only have 4 more chapter left in my 3rd draft revision.

I came home to share my excitement with my hubby. His question (naturally): "So what happens when you're done with the 3rd draft?"

My reply: "ummm. . . I do a 4th draft." (wind goes out of sails upon this confession)

"Oh," he says "Doesn't seem like much of an incentive." (He's a very practical guy)

"hmmm. No it doesn't, does it." I admit, because he's right.

Revisions seem endless. but when I thought about it some more, the completion of my 3rd draft is huge. the 2nd and 3rd draft were filled with major plot and structure revisions. I expect that the 4th draft and on will be less intense. Perhaps more tedious, but less intense.

I ended up staying up late (or very early morning. . . whatever) and I COMPLETED MY 3rd draft!!!!!! whoooo hoooooooo!!!!!. OK. so maybe my reward is simply going on to the 4th draft, but I feel that I am much much closer to submission. Not to mention, I am nearly 2 months ahead of my self-appointed schedule.

So. . . who wants to celebrate with me?

That's great -- two months ahead, and you have kids? How does that happen? That's enough of a reason
to celebrate!

LOL, well, my secret is that I set my goal really really low. I know I can't always fly through revisions, so I make my goal attainable. My goal was to revise at lest 2 chapters a week. Sometimes it was less. Some weeks it was a lot more. And I gave myself a large buffer. ;0)

Plus, staying up late helps. I can't do that often, but I can handle every once in a while when I get in a zone. :0)

Thanks for dropping by party. :0) Here. Have some chips.

Party party party!

[Doing dorky revision dance.]

It always feels good to get a revision done and be in a "resting" place with a manuscript.

Hoooooray Christy! I know how much time and effort you've put into every detail of that 3rd draft! Cookies to you! Your book is wonderful and it will be all ship shape, with 4th draft done, and out to publishers in no time! - Janelle

Ok, so you're saying that you set reasonable goals, and don't do what I do - which is to get 50 pages done in the hour between swim practice and dinner. Then you actually do it (work) instead of surfing blogs (fun).
Sigh.
But thanks for the chips. Just let me put my mojito down...

Well, Anne, truth be told, I think blog sufring is one of the reasons why I allow myself such a large buffer. ;0) It's not all just about the kids. :00

I'd probably be further along otherwise. Any more mojito's?
