The Adventures of Super Turkey: Lois Path and Cluck Kent

This is a repost from last year. I can't help it. This is one of my fondest childhood memories that began my love of writing. And, I must add, the above picture is my attempt at art. My adulthood attempt, not my childhood attempt. I know it may be hard to tell.

I was in 5th grade and in white chalk (this was the day of black boards) the teacher wrote:

Write a story starting with this sentence "One day I was face to face with a musket . . . "

I
wish I had the foresight to keep that piece, but I didn't. I do, however, remember a little bit of how it goes.

One day I was face to face with a musket . . .

I went on to tell the story of a young and strong turkey named Cluck Kent. World famous Bawkporter Lois Path found herself looking down the barrel of a musket. Cluck Kent sensed trouble was afoot and our hero dashed into the nearest hollow log to emerge none-other than Super Hero extrodinaire SUPER TURKEY!!!!!!!! Super Turkey was able to get the musket away from the hunter and saved the day. THE END

I had so much fun writing the story, and the teacher and my parents gushed over my paper and Voila! The seeds of "writing-joy" were planted.

Thanks Super Turkey and Mrs. Whatsyourname for my my 5th grade Thanksgiving writing assignment.

What memories are special for you this time of year?

That story sounds not unlike your NaNo alter-ego...

I bet the teacher was thrilled to receive such a creative piece from her student! Cute!
We usually host dinner at our house at Thanksgiving. We have served from 7 people to 35. This year will be about 18. I love having the family gather at our house. I also like going shopping with my mom and sister the next day, another fun family tradition!

jacqui, maybe that explains why I've been on a super hero/adventurer kick lately. This time of year just brings it out of me.

Thanks Kelly! It must be nice to have so many family members to get together. Sounds like fun! :0)

Great story! There are some things I wished I'd held onto. But others I'm very glad I didn't :)
I love this whole time of year! The leaves, the pumpkin seeds, squash, gingerbread houses! It's all good.

Great story and drawing!

I think my fondest memories of Thanksgiving was going to my grandparents for dinner. My grandma was a great cook and she made sure everything was perfect.

Obviously humor is in your soul! Great story.

We had a guest house for many years and would put on a huge buffet spread for Thanksgiving. I was/am/will always be a pumpkin pie nut. So early in my haphazzard baking career I became the official pumpkin pie maker. One year, for the buffet, I made seven pies. In the course of one day (I kid you not!) I ate FOUR of them!

What a great story and I love your turkey drawing! He's so cute, and strong.

Favorite memories of this time are leaves (as long as I didn't have to rake them, which I usually did). Jumping into leaf piles was fun too. My parents have a few pictures of leaf raking and jumping into leaf piles from one year. I'm guessing 5th or 6th grade, but I'm not sure since I don't have the pictures here.

BTW, I've always loved the idea of Super Turkey. I did some art a few years ago and had fun with it. My super turkey had a mask, cape, and tennis shoes :)

I love Super Turkey! Glad that's not the super hero name you chose, though.
I had some fun and eclectic Thanksgivings when I was single, and everyone who was solo or away from home would get together. I wouldn't trade them for Thanksgivings with my family, but it's fun to look back on them!

Super turkey rocks.

I don't remember the name of my 5th grade teacher either. Somewhere in middle school I had a Mrs. Lucus and the only reason I remember that is because I called her Mrs. Mucus.
