I dream about blogging (proof of a deranged mind)

Last week on Rena's blog she posted about lucid dreams, the kind of dreams where you know you're dreaming and can control the outcome of the dream or manipulate the images.

Well, Here's what happened in my dreams a couple of nights ago:

I'm having this really scary dream. So, in the middle of my dream I say to my(dream)self. "This is just a dream. I can control what happens. After all, I just read about this on Rena's blog. I can do this."

So, I keep trying to control my dream, but it's not working. I can't figure out what I can do to get away from the bad guys. So I think to my(dream)self: "OK, this is ridiculous, just wake yourself up!"

So I did. I woke myself up. I felt my heavy eyelids open and my proof of wakefulness was the blinking green light on my bedroom smoke detector. So I lay there staring at the blinking light, trying to figure out how I can change my dream and get rid of the bad guys. I think about creating doors so I can get out of the room or if I couldn't find a door I'd just make a bomb appear and throw it at the bad guys and blow 'em up.

That sounded like a good plan, so I fell back asleep and went right back into the same dang dream. So, I created a door to get away from the bad guys, but guess what!? I went out the door and ended up in an scarier situation than the one I was dreaming about before! What gives? Is my brain playing a trick on me? What kind of sick brain purposely takes you out of one bad dream only to help you escape into a worse one? URRRRGGGHHHH!

So, I wake myself up again, until I see the flickering of the smoke detector light once more, and I formulate a new plan on how to get out of that dream-predicament. "After all," I tell myself. "Rena's blog says I can do this."

And can you figure out what happens? It works, but then once again, as soon as I get out of that dream I find myself in yet another worse dream!

I think I went through this about 4 or 5 times before morning finally came. I was getting really frustrated. I could only control my dream to a point, but instead of getting better, I only found myself in a worse dream than before.

So, tell me people. Am I a total nutt case?

I don't know what is worse, that my brain purposely makes my dreams worse when I try to control them, or that I'm thinking about blogs in my sleep. :0P

In my former life as a tech writer, I edited a huge volume and authorized the printing of more than a thousand copies.

That night, I dreamed I had received the documents. As I reviewed the first page, OMG! There was a misspelling! Can you believe I woke straight up!

LOL - What are you snacking on before bedtime?

Hey Beth! I've had some pretty crazy one's too, but this is the first time a blog has made it into the land of weirdness. ;0)

Hey Dannette! Thanks for stopping by my little side of Blogland! :0) You know you've been working too hard when your work starts giving you nightmares! ;0)

LOL, Adrienne! No more pickled pigs brains before bed for me! ;0P

I do that all the time. Although I've found that the sillier my solution, the more likely it is to work. Next time, go back to sleep and beat the bad guys with a big fish. ;)

LOL, Carrie, of course. Why didn't I think of that. Too obvious I guess. ;0D

What did we all used to do when our minds weren't loaded down with blogging? I have no idea!

I don't know whether to laugh or apologize! But man, is this interesting or what! Nikki, who replied on my blog, said she studied Lucid Dreaming and learning how to do it. I guess it's something that takes practice. I wouldn't say I've mastered it either and I've had the same experience you've had where I went to worse situations. But LOL @ dreaming about the blog. Sounds like me. The other night my dreams included Nancy Pelosi and Barney Frank. Just a little too much politics for my liking!

Here's hoping tonight is better!!!

Dreams are so funny! Blogging is so addictive that we can't even leave them alone at night!
I hope Rena does a post about Matthew McConaughey next so maybe I'll dream about that blog! :0)

PJ, there was a time before blogging? Wasn't that invented by the caveman? ;0D

Rena, LOL! No need of apologies! this is awesome! I'm one step closer to learning how to manage my nightmares. Plus, My nightmares always give me creative idea's for tension in my writing. ONe of my favorite chapters in my current WIP comes from a nightmare. I just toned it down a bit. :0) Not to mention, you gave me something to blog about. :) So, Thank you!!!!

Hey Susan! Glad you're back in Blogland! Talk about video games! I remember when I played Pac Man so much that I dreamed of it and saw it everytime I closed my eyes!

LOL Kelly!!!!!

Alas, Christy. As a person who has met your brain, I don't find this situation at all surprising. : )

I don't dream that often - but I've had lucid dreams and been able to wake up without a problem - maybe that's why I don't "choose" to dream very often.

The next time this happens, you pull out your dreamself computer and pull up Rena's blog and show those bad guys that you are allowed to change your dreams and they will just have to deal with that...and then run away while they are getting addicted to reading blogs...grin...

Happy Dreams!

Thanks Janelle, I think. ;0)

LOL Kim!

Good Idea Brenda! I'll get those bad guys so busy blogging that they won't have time to plague my dreams. ;0D

LOL @ Matthew McConaughey, Kelly!!

How awful! I haven't gotten the hang of lucid dreaming either. I think sometimes your brain has stuff it wants to tell you and you can't control it, and other times, the brain wants a story and then you're in control ... or not. It was the only thing I thought of that made sense.

It does make sense that you dream about what you did that day, or what you're stressed about, etc. I've had lots of dreams that involved what was going on in my life at that time, including blogs and websites.

Happy Turkey Day!

Maybe after eating all that turkey, you know, all that trictophan, in your comatose state, you'll learn how to control those lucid dreams.

I want to learn how to "project" - like on Sunday's night episode of True Blood. (I think that's what the creepy lady, Maryanne, was doing).

Yeah, I'm nuts too. The squirrels are coming to get me.

I've had lucid dreams where I can control the outcome. And then a few months ago I had a very terrifying dream--one of the first bonafide nightmares of my adult life--and I could not escape. I remember telling myself, like in the movies, "yell and wake yourself up!" And I did. I screamed like a banshee. And I woke myself up. My heart was beating fast and I was not convinced that I was awake. So I screamed again and woke up the entire house. Very scary-movie cliche! Of course, I had no recollection of what was so frightening in the dream. Thankfully I have not had another one of those.
