My life as a 6th grade dragon-maker

The current "tag" around blogland is sharing your senior picture. So. Here it is in all it's Aqua-Net glory. Looking at this picture I have to wonder how much of the ozone I am personally responsible for.

OK. But here's what I'm really proud of. A middle-school friend of mine (that I've reconnected with through Facebook) has been posting some pictures that have made me rather nostalgic. My best days of school were in 5th and 6th grade. One of my 15 minutes of fame was when I won a snow sculpture contest with 4 of my friends. Those were the days when snow was fun. As an adult, I've gladly turned in my midwestern snow shovel for a NC sand pale. I still like to make sculptures, though my preferred medium includes sunshine, ocean and a bathing suit.

P.S. That's me in the middle.

Anyway. This blog isn't fun when I just talk about myself. Now it's your turn to take a walk down memory lane. Do you have any newspaper or t.v. moments of fame? What are some of your proudest moments?

Pretty picture, Christy. I love your pendant, too. I just posted my senior pic as well! Love the snow sculpture picture. How fun that had to be!
I was in the paper occasionally for sports, and when my squad won first place at cheerleading camp.
My hs class just formed a reunion group recently so I was already going through old photos. It's been fun!

Oh MY! So many people are posting these things, I might have to make an effort to find mine. But - that could be a catastrophe.

Picture closet doors opening and me . . . buried beneath the avalanche.

TV followed me and my friends making snow sculptures!

Great picture, Christy! Loved the newspaper one too. I have one of those as well, so I'll try to put it up soon. It's fun to learn about all this stuff. At least I think so! :)

Kim, your picture closet sounds like my eternal laundry pile! I need a ladder every time I try to make a dent in it! :0)

Pretty picture! I'm getting nostalgic, too, seeing all these senior pics.
I miss snow but also prefer sand sculpting - now when I get to the beach the first thing I do is sculpt a big lounge chair!

Great picture! Funny, my worst days in school were 5th-7th grade. High school was where it was at for me.

As for TV fame...
You mean you didn't see my fifteen minutes of fame on one of those home shopping channels?

I think I was the only person to get a hang up call. Meh. One day I'll blog about it. Gulp.

christy...great pic! What a fun newspaper clip...

Then only thing I can remember being in the paper for was a contest for a "smoking is bad for you campaign"...I was in maybe the 1st or 2nd grade, I traced around my sock monkey on poster board and then drew cigs in his mouth and hands...I colored him green and I wrote above his head, "don't be a green monkey?" and below him I wrote "Choose bananas not smokes."

I won a pizza coupon and $10.00 to spend at the local Ben Franklin Store...I thought I was something! grin...

~sigh~ Adrienne, now I'm getting nostalgic for summer again and the fall just barely began! ;0)

Slhastings, now I HAVE to hear this t.v. story!!!! Spill the beans! :0)

Brenda, What a cute story!!!!! If you could dig that up I'd love to see it on your blog! What a smart 1st/2nd grader you were! Your creativity started early!

I was on the front page of our county's paper when I was in 9th grade. I was Hippolyta (did I spell that right?) AND I played Juliet. I was the worst Juliet EVER. The pic was with Romeo and me. My head was in his lap, as I was supposed to be dead.

My great uncle called and ribbed me abuot having my head in a boy's lap...AND having it photographed. Grrr.

Fun times.

LOL! There's nothing quite like a family member, is there?

Great pictures Christy. I laughed when I read Aqua Net. I haven't thought about that brand for a while.

I love the snow picture! I remember when I used to like snow too. Right up until I got my driver's license.

Somewhere there is a newspaper picture of me in a pool with bad hair, doing synchronized swimming. There are also several pictures of me with paintings for art shows. I like the painting ones better!

Great photo! We never had individual photos in my final year at school and in the class photo, I look positively morose. Definitely not showing that!

Ohhhh! sychronized swimming is pretty cool! I'm not surprised to hear about the art! You've probably been uber-talented since you were in the crib.

Hey Kate! In the states it's a tradition to have your senior picture taken by a professional photographer. That's why so many of us have them. You should post a picture from a different year. We'd all love to see! :0) Pretty please!

Thanks Christy! I'm not sure about in the crib, but I always liked making art. I'm lucky that my mom saved a lot of the stuff from when I was little - it's fun to see how some things are the same now as they were then, and how some things have changed.

One day I'll spill the very sad beans...

(never invent a handbag unless you have working capital is the major lesson)

until then I posted my senior pic.

C.R. Evers said...

sruble, you should post some of your childhood art. That would be fun to see!

sl = Your picture is GREAT! :0)

I've posted some before, but maybe I'll have to post more :)

You definatly need to repost some of those for us newbies to your blog! :0) I'd love to see them!
